The Bank of England and the UK finance ministry have started talks about the central bank launching its own digital currency with the new year.
The central bank said in a statement that the digital pound consultation with HM Treasury will examine the design features, benefits and implications for users and businesses.
The negotiations have not been concluded yet, an announcement will be made soon.
The Bank of England added that no decision has yet been made to issue a CBDC.
